pursues them through villages devastated by disease. Through it all, these estranged siblings will come to trust one another to survive an unforgiving world.

On their journey, Amicia and Hugo will join forces with other children, and evade swarms of rats using fire and light. They will face untold horrors and cruelties in their struggle, aided only by a link that binds their fates together. Their adventure begins and a time of innocence comes to an end.
